Ludwin is a 25 year old quadriplegic orphan. He is currently supporting his two younger siblings, who are 14 & 9, by begging in the street.

Ludwin is also a gifted painter. he paints beautiful artwork by holding the paintbrush in his mouth. One way we hope to help Ludwin acheive a sustainable income is by providing him with a fresh supply of paints and tools so he can earn an income to support his family.

Yanira Fuentes is a wonderful young lady who lives with her mom and 4 siblings in Villa Nueva Guatemala. Yanira just turned 13 March 2nd. Yanira's mom suffers from kidney disease and needs dialysis on a regular basis. Yanira's mom can't afford to pay for the treatments and only one hospital in Guatemala will provide the services for free. Unfortunately this hospital is underfunded and frequently the dialysis machine is broken and not available. This irregular treatment causes Yanira's mother to have frequent hospital stays which leaves the children home alone to fend for themselves.

With sporadic income Yanira's 19 year old brother and 15 year old sister try to find work to support the family. Yanira stays home to care for her 9 year old sister and 7 year old brother. The family doesn't have much to eat and Yanira often skips meals for 2-3 days to give extra food to her younger siblings.

We first met Yanira and her family in January 2011. Jon & Vivian, staff members at the New Life Children's Home, were aware of the family's needs and asked our team if we could repair the family's front gate which had fallen down. We gladly offered our help and we were blessed to meet Yanira and her family. That is when we learned that Yanira often suffers from convulsions and fainting spells. A nurse on our team suggested we take Yanira to a heart specialist.

In February we were able to return to Guatemala and we took Yanira to get an EKG and visit the cardiologist. He reported that the EKG looked normal but that we should run some more tests. While we were there Dylan & Missy Brobst, Vivian and I took the family about 2 weeks worth of food as their mother was once again in the hospital and there was no food in the house. I left some money with Vivian for future medical expenses and food needs
